02/16/2007 - Oahu, HI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Paula Creamer posted a five-under-par 67 on Thursday to join Paige MacKenzie and reigning Women's British Open champion Sherri Steinhauer atop the leaderboard after the first round of the SBS Open at Turtle Bay Resort.
Natalie Gulbis, Julieta Granada, Sung Ah Yim and Wendy Ward are knotted in fourth place at minus-four.
This is the season-opening, stroke-play event for the 2007 LPGA Tour.
Creamer, the eighth-ranked player in the world who went winless on tour last year, parred her first two holes before a two-putt birdie at the par-five third.
She tallied one additional birdie on her front nine. At the par-five ninth, Creamer reached the green with her second shot and once again two-putted for a birdie.
Creamer used her length to take advantage of a par five, this time at the 12th. She rolled in a four-footer for birdie there and two holes later cashed in from six feet for her fourth birdie.
Creamer's final birdie came at the par-four 17th. She knocked a wedge to 15 feet and sank the birdie try to join the logjam at the top of the leaderboard.
"I played really consistent," acknowledged Creamer. "I think I missed only two greens, maybe three, but I think it was two. No bogeys and five birdies so I played solid and it was a good day."
Creamer also spoke of her winless 2006 campaign, which was a shock to most since Creamer established herself as one of the best players in the world during her rookie year of 2005.
"I just feel it was one of those years where my expectations were incredibly high and I kind of put a lot of pressure on myself," she admitted. "Just too many mistakes. Too many bogeys and not enough birdies to cancel it out."
MacKenzie made her LPGA Tour debut a great one as she started on the back nine at the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort. She holed a 20-footer for birdie at the 14th, then dropped a stroke at the 16th when a bee flew by her during her backswing.
With all insects out of the way, MacKenzie played great golf on her second nine. At the first, she hit a five-iron to seven feet to set up birdie. MacKenzie made it two in a row thanks to a 23-foot birdie putt at the second.
MacKenzie closed out well to get into a share of the lead. She tapped in a short birdie putt at the sixth, and ran home a nine-foot birdie putt at the seventh. Her final birdie came at the par-five ninth when her eight-footer found the bottom of the cup.
"It was just a very steady day," said MacKenzie. "I love the front side, it was the first nine I played on Monday and everything about it just felt great."
Steinhauer opened with three consecutive pars, then drained a 35-foot birdie putt at the fourth. She added another 35-foot birdie putt at the sixth, but dropped her only shot of the tournament at the 10th thanks to a three-putt.
She atoned for the error at 11 when she hit a six-iron to two feet to set up birdie. The biggest shot of Steinhauer's round came at the par-four 14th when she holed a sand-wedge for an eagle.
"I was blocked out a little by the trees because I hit it a little to the left, but my caddie Joe Connelly said you've got the wind and you've got the green. Everything is going that way," said Steinhauer. "So I did and it just kept rolling, rolling, rolling and it just disappeared. It is a great feeling."
Steinhauer got her share of the lead at the 18th when she holed a 20-footer for birdie.
Yu Ping Lin, Janice Moodie, Irene Cho, Alena Sharp, Hee-Won Han, Stacy Prammanasudh, Morgan Pressel and Hall of Famer Juli Inkster are knotted in eighth place at three-under-par 69.
One player that did struggle on Thursday was defending champion Joo Mi Kim. She carded a five-over-par 77 and is tied for 114th place.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.
Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.
According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).
Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''
Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.
Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.
''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''
Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.
”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''
The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.
Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.
Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.
Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
